Borrowing FAQ

  • Our tools may only be used by members who are 18 years of age or older, and have paid any outstanding late fees. For liability reasons, members agree not to permit the use of tools checked out by themselves to any other person.

  • Memberships are good for 12 months and can be renewed at any time.
Log in, then go to: Account – Membership – Renewal Now

  • Once you have chosen the items to reserve in MyTurn, you must go to the cart and submit it.

Check the MyTurn cart instructional video on how to navigate this (thanks to our mates up in TOOLO in the Blue Mountains for sharing).

Your reservation is only complete when you have received an email from MyTurn.

  • The library is open from 9am to 12pm midday every Saturday (except some public holidays - please check Facebook for updates)

Please keep in mind the IWTL cannot guarantee item is ready - if an item gets returned same day as your reservation and is not in working order or is a hazard, we cannot loan it out again.

When returning: it is recommended to come in between 9am and 10am to ensure we can check the item before loaning out again.

When picking up: please come at the time you have allocated in your reservation so we can manage the amount of people at the library and keep everyone safe.

Please respect the tools and borrowing times so everyone is happy! :)

  • Tools may be borrowed for 7 days - from Saturday to Saturday. Members are encouraged to return tools from 9am to 10am to allow time for the Tool Library volunteers to check the item before loaning out again (i.e. that it is clean and safe to use).

Late fines of $3/day ($21/week) for power tools and $1/day for hand tools ($7/week) apply to any tool returned past its due date.

This is to ensure tools are returned in time for the next member - we don’t want anyone missing out on their loans!

  • Before borrowing and returning tools, the Tool Library volunteers inspect tools for safety hazards and any damage. All tools are to be returned clean and in the same condition as they were issued, barring normal wear and tear. Members will be charged for any damages beyond normal wear and tear, or the loss of an item.

  • We cannot guarantee that rechargeable batteries (on drills, etc) will be fully charged when tools are loaned out. Likewise, members are not expected to return tools with fully charged batteries. This policy is in place to extend the life of our batteries by ensuring that they are not being over-charged.
